Default Dccd

Does anyone have any experience of fairly early DCCD gear boxes breaking, or what power level they are good for.

I've read quite a few threads on the early 752's going at around 300/300 or so but can't recall anyone saying they've had a DCCD box let go.

I presume your talking about your type r v4 box, I've run my v3 dccd which i presume is the same at 330/300 ish and given it some pretty decent stick, several track days and a couple of days on the sprint circuit at curbourgh (sp) with a few sympathetic launches if there is such a thing, it's not the quietest gearbox, a tad whiney, but it's been like it since I got it and I think it's more to do with the clutch and light weight flywheel, but it's never been a quiet box, more recently I was running the car at 300/280 ish and was really trying to break my engine that I rebuilt at donnington without success which is typical, when you want it to break it won't and the gearbox was fine when I pulled it out, so much so that I was tempted to put it in my Blob wagon, still tempted to have a dccd short ratio Blob wagon, which could be fun in the traffic light derby and on the b roads.

Now I'm not sure how accurate my info is but i'm sure the dccd was considered one of the stronger boxes from early classics but that may be related to the rear 180 diff, the weakness seems to be the casing as opposed to the gears themselves, but the v6 are supposed to be stronger, don't know why.

Thanks ditch,

Yes I'm asking because I'm thinking of maybe putting the 2.1 once it's built straight in as a "stage 1" and only mapping it for low ish power. Stage 2 would be Injectors/turbo etc and then another remap.

I'm on a version 2 sti ra gearbox, currently doing mods to get a reliable 300ish maybe 320. Due for mapping by jgm in June. Now I'm hoping it all holds together as I'm going back to the ring in July. I love having such a short box, if it fails ill be looking into later short ration 5 speeds.

I'm not sure how precise my details is but i'm sure the dccd was regarded one of the more powerful bins from beginning oldies but that may be relevant to the back 180 diff, the weak point seems to be the covering in contrast to the equipment themselves, but the v6 are expected to be more powerful, don't know.
