It needs time to learn Rottie.
You should drive it for around 10 - 15 miles after a reset, with mixed driving.
As Bio said it will probably take about half a tank to learn fully.

Took MY99 into a dealer last month to have the ECU reset after the Check Engine warning light had came on. I'd only had the car 2/3 weeks and it had seemed fine to me up till then!
However, after leaving the car with the dealer and having the ECU reset, I was told the car was fine. No fault numbers or indication of what the problem was, just here are the keys now **** off stop bothering us!
However 3 miles down the road and when parking up the idle was totally erratic and car kept stalling. Absolute nightmare when you expect them to have sorted it.
Total ****wits who, like you say probably do more harm than good!
Went to another dealer to have the AFM replaced which sorted it!

My 1998 always felt slow after an ECU reset and it took 30-40 miles before it started to pick up again. I always ran on SUL so it probably took it a while to pick up again to the same level before it went in.
Thats the problem with reading peoples opinions on here some are right and some are wrong.

ECU reset on my99/00 always made the car better at high revs initially, imho
Are you still running the same boost levels (a polite way of checking that you did disconnect the connectors afterwards )?

But a reset should only make the car feel faster if it was previously retarded. If it was previously retarded then it had probably experienced some knock recently (which is a Bad Thing ).
Bear in mind that *if* it is faster after a reset and then slows down again as you drive it, you *may* have some det problems.

This sounds so familiar, these cars never seem to run the same way twice and the dealers think that your making things up. Wait till you start getting whipped by Suzuki Swift’s then you'll really be pi$$ed off.

Did feel better today tho.
Felt back to punchy again. Maybe its the weather,or me,or dealer,or a fault,or............. oh christ this is the reason i sold the cossie.i should just leave things alone. apart from a full decat on thursday.
Promised i wouldnot mod this car its to nice. I am a*se.

Maybe worth getting a boost gauge when you get the decat if you don't already. Not that I am suggesting anything will go wrong but always wise to know the boost...

You won't break it - the worst that will happen is the boost might be a bit spiky. If it is too much you will feel it because the ECU will pull back the duty cycle and it will undershoot before stabilising.
A decat arguably helps your engine by increasing volumetric efficiency.

Thanks for the reply,
what does it mean pull back etc, please excuse my ignorance. spent 3 years mastering cossie language , this is all new to me.
Do you mean over boost and retarding of ignition ??

No I mean over boost then undershoot boost then stabilise. Kind of feels "disappointing". The ECU tries to keep a constant boost level, if you go and uncork the exhaust so to speak the boost rises a lot quicker - this is a good thing unless it goes too far. On a standard car you should be alright. The Prodrive cars are a nightmare with decat exhausts.

Cheers John, i get it now.
At the end of the day if i am paying 800 notes for a exhaust and it comes out doing that or i am dissapointed, from a well respected main agent dealer its coming off.

Rottie1, the weather in the last few days has been very humid, are you sure it's not that, that is kiding you that performance has degraded because of the reset?
My cars definately felt flat in all this hot weather, try it late at night in the cold air, and preferably when it's raining for maximum impact.
