Default Grinding/Graunching Noise on full power gear changes

Hi, Hope someone can help me with this.

I've had my Impreza 2000 AWD for a month now - if I'm giving it "the beans" or the engine is under load i.e. going up hill, I get a graunching noise on gear changes up through the box - especially if I change quickly. It doesn't do it if I'm being gentle or on down shifts. The noise seems to come from the pedal but I can't be sure.
Has anyone else had this or knows what it may be? Any help would be appreciated as it's ruining what is a brilliant car.

Many Thanks

Ian
