downpipes are louder, you cannot avoid that.

but consider a BPM dp which flows really well but it made from mild steel.

This has different resonance characteristics and as such is supposed to be 6db quieter.

Not cheap though.

Is the Remus (?) DP quiter still?

I'm the the same boat - I'm looking to put a DP in but I don't want any increase (or very very little) on the noise front as I use my car for work.

Get the quieter version of the SS backbox? I found the SS d/p didn't add to overall droning, just introduced new turbo noises.

Make sure the Down Pipe is lagged, this will help a little with cabin noise.

Doofus,

I fitted a 3" HKS DP last week - mild steel and unlagged. Haven't really noticed an increase in noise from the DP area but my SS backbox seems to have come to life - much deeper sound and a bit noisier now. Also have Magnex decat centre.

Looks like I'm going for a lagged DP and currently will keep the centre and bb standard

Richard,

I'd been thinking along the same lines ... However, I went for a drive with Scoobysnack who has SS DP, Magnex Res'd centre and 3'' BB ... noise was a little more in car, but actually not agreat deal and that was a full AM system . The tone was nicer - burrrrbbly and deeper, but not droney at 70/80ish. You can hear the turbo a tad more, but not intrusive IMHO. When accelerating hard it sounded sooooper .
My plan now is to pop a SS DP on, not lagged and think about the rest of the zorst later.

The HKS DP is also mild steel and offers a different, quieter sound than stainless.

Steve - def the path I'm going down - though interesting to hear that a non-lagged dp isn't too bad.

Must remember to ask John Banks what he had on his (not sure what dp and centre section he had - though it was a prodrive bb) as it was way too loud for me. Sounded about the same when you weren't pushing it but when he opened the car up it was very very loud (at least to my innocent standard system ears )

Thanks for the suggestion Jamie.

I went in John Banks car and thought that is was way to loud, but he did have an induction kit fitted (as well as the exhaust) so maybe that why it was so noisy ??

I have a Scoobysport D/P, Magnex Res. centre section and Scoobysport back box, and thought today how nice (not to loud) it sounded until I opened her up, and it then she sounds lovely

Question

Phil - when you open it up does it sound as loud as John's does?

Cool

To be really honest the last time I went in Johns car was many months ago. It is quite noisy when on wide open throttle, but that's what most people want!! I certainly do all my mate, and even the misses and kids haven't compained about the noise on WOT. An induction kit would make my car far to noisy

Best thing to do mate, is have a go in someones car with the Scoobysports DP / BB and see what you think.

Scoobysports do make a "quite" backback as well not sure the point in that. My mate Sideways got one sent by accident and it was almost as quite as a standard BB.

Cheers Phil - I'll take your advice and get along to a meet soon and have a listen to the options in the flesh (so to speak )

My car was loud and whoosy/hissy with the induction kit on. I have a Magnex twin dump DP, PPP centre and PPP backbox. The backbox is restrictive, but I am not changing it because I don't want it louder. The induction noise was far louder than the exhaust, and I am now back on a panel filter (ITG).

Maybe my car is loud as I rarely have it below 5000 RPM Pootling around it is fine.

Phil it is such a different car from when you were last in it - you must return
