I have recently fitted a Dawes SDBC to MY97 UK car. I am interested in finding out what boost pressures others are running, as I am currently on around 1.2bar. Is this a safe level(although I'm not sure if my boost gauge is very accurate)?
I haven't yet hit cut-out, so I assume this pressure is not too high, although I remember somebody saying that the 'best' method of set up is to find the cut-out and reduce boost pressure by around 1psi?

Any help much appreciated as I seem to be having way too much fun for 35quid!!

Yes find the point where it just stops fuel cutting and turn it back 1 PSI or 0.07 bar. Your gauge is very possibly over-reading - a lot of MY97s would fuel cut at 1.2 bar.

Edited thanks Ricco for correcting my decimal points.

0.7 bar.... isn't that nore like 10 PSI John? *LOL*

I think you got your decimal point in the wrong place!

I'd be careful - as John says, I'd also expect you to have hit fuel cut at 1.2bar. Do you know the history of your car? Maybe your boost guage is accurate, and it has *no* fuel cut

AFAIK the car was totally standard when purchased from the one owner previous. I checked with the servicing Subaru dealer prior to buying who assured me all was well.
I think i'll have a trip to Kershaws rolling road in near York to see if all is well before tweeking further.

Cheers

Leeroy,
I have a MY97 UK - When I first fitted my Dawes on setting it up it boosted to 22psi for about 4 seconds before it fuel-cut. Since setup i've only run 14-15psi max, so I can't say what sustained boost is typical before fuel-cut. I may up it slightly soon to about 1.1 bar.
Also slightly off topic but is the TD04 fitted to MY97s slightly larger than those fitted to later models (MY99/00)?
IIRC it's documented somewhere as follows
Upto MY96 Large turbo
MY97-MY98 Medium turbo
MY99-MY00 Small turbo.

Anybody got a definitive answer?

Cube.
