ECU reset (again!!!)
#1
I know, I know, this has been covered before, but I can't find the old thread anywhere.
I rememeber reading that someone did an ECU reset and the performance was worse afterwards.
I've been running my new toy on Optimax for 3 tanks now and am planning a reset. I'd like to know how I'm supposed to drive:
a: for the 1+ minute while the plugs are connected
and
b: for the next ? minutes/miles while the ECU is re-learning.

Depends on the MY whether you actually need to reset the ECU. From what I have heard MY01 dont need to, MY99-MY00 learn after a few miles of changing fuel, My97-98 learn after 30-40 miles after changing fuel before that it worth doing a reset. If you wnat to do a reset, just reset and drive normally. The reset allows the ECU to return to factory defaults and will "learn" the new fuel quicker. You may find a performance drop initially but it should quickly return as the system learns.

From what I remember you don;t need to drive it whilst the plugs are connected just plug in and it all clicks away and then switch off and disconnect as that is it.
As to driving afterwards, as normal.. there are some silly people that think you need to rev it and all this but it is bollox..
just take it for a nice spin with varying driving but like normal and it will just learn the fuel calculations again etc...but definitly don't thrash it...
I doubt you need to go as far but I'd go about 5miles...
It will continue learning the next time you use it etc..
