Car is an MY98 - Drove the car fine and parked it up overnight. Went out the next morning and it will not engage gear with the clutch fully depressed. Clutch is around 18 mths old after engine rebuild.



On inspection, I found that the rod coming out of the slave cylinder to the clutch release lever was loose and could be removed and refitted without much problem – not sure if this is relevant ?


There are no leaks on either the master or slave cylinders and the fluid level is correct with no sign of loss.


When the clutch is depressed, the slave cylinder rod does move out and push the clutch lever forward.


Questions :



1 - Could this be a master cylinder problem in that it is not pushing the lever far enough to disengage the clutch ?.
2 – A problem with the release bearing ?
3 – Gearbox problem ? (it’s the original 5 speed on approx 390bhp but has been fine so far with no bad noises)

Problem solved. I was advised to try starting it in gear as the plates may have frozen due to damp on the clutch.

It worked - lesson learnt
