Default Decent Clutch for 400bhp

Noticed the other day my clutch has started to slip high up in the gears only very slightly

But looks like a new clutch will be in order sooner rather than later

Next year im looking at going round 400bhp

Car is 2002 STi

Thanks

Exeedy pink box will do the trick as long as you don't do launches or get a twin plate version

That's upto you, if your flywheels in good nick just get it skimmed or go for a forged lightweight one

new or skimmed or you will do it second time during a year.
ive got pink and it judder a little(6 weeks old and still) plus i hear flywheel , and when changing gear on 3 -no matter how many revs- i feel some hit in the gearbox.
i recommend other brand to use
anti judder version and judder when fitted
done few launches to bed it but no more as 5 speed is in the car

I went for Helix Organic to cope with 400lb/ft - it's the torque that they are rated to.

Might be of some interest? See below for an example, worth shopping around though depending on your application.

As above you should really look at your intended torque and find the clutch that is rated to take it (doubt it will be cheap though for around 400lbft!!)

With regards to your flywheel in most cases you will just be able to stick another clutch on no problems however it depends on how worn the clutch was before it was replaced and if it has damaged your flywheel in the process also high mileage cars or those that have been abused tend to get flywheel wear (where you end up with grooves and or lips exactly like a worn brake disc) it most cases it is best to assume the worst so that you are prepared for the extra cost that may be incurred. Also if you are spending big money on a clutch then best not ruin it by installing on a worn flywheel.
If it was me I would probably upgrade the flywheel at the same time to a lightweight forged steel version and then you know everything is new and you shouldnt have any problems for some time (dependant on use!!)

Speak to the Bren@Apex Performance or Alyn@AS Performance about the ACT clutch, which are great clutch and will hold your desired power and torque

But I can recommend only Exedy Twin Plate, which is more expensive but is proven on drag strip,we are done around 45 drag runs on first one and we are damaged only pressure plates(with lots of launches which has been not the best),which is cheaper option, now we are done again 45 runs and pressure plates and friction plates are like new

What I've read on the Lightweight flywheel on drag racing, many people recommending standard heavier flywheel

Exedy Organic Racing would be more than up to the job and not at silly money: http://www.superhids.co.uk/clutches-...-6-speed-.html

Used to do 100s of drag launches on my Exedy Organic Racing and it was perfect.

With regards to a lightweight flywheel, there is a lot of mis-information out there. I ran a super light flywheel (4.3kgs - about as light as you can get!) and used to run on the drag strip regularly. Launches were very consistent (and good). Would never go to a OEM weight flywheel personally.

A local machine shop will be able to skim the flywheel for you. You will need to take it off the car, give it to them and wait for them to turn it around. One quicker way is to buy a secondhand one and have it skimmed so that it is ready to go when you fit the clutch. You will also need to fit a new spigot bearing.

A lightweight forged flywheel is well worthwhile, improves throttle response and acceleration. We can supply a complete package with Exedy Racing Organic Clutch Kit, lightweight forged flywheel, release bearing and spigot bearing (ie everything you need) at the reduced price of £599. Not available online but give us a call:
