Just wondering about the reliability and accuracy of the KL.

Assuming the KL is working fine, sensitivity is set to max and its knock sensor is mounted in the correct position (on the block):

Has anyone ever encountered det (either by det cans or audible hearing) WITHOUT seeing any of the amber LED's illuminate?

Tks.

Tks Pete, the KL works.

Am just wondering cos the KL is supposedly tuned to a specific det frequency. Different engines may have differnt det frequencies as they have obviously unique characteristics (like bore X stroke etc).

Is it even possible that an engine's det goes undetected by the KL due to the det being out of its tuned frequency?

The Knocklink is a proven bit of kit and I have seen it light up like a christmas tree, at the slightest hint of det.

Tks Pete.

The only time I saw my KL light up max was when I blew a spark plug with WOT in 4th gear. Turns out Denso IK22 is not equal NGK #7. Think the thing was too hot and it just went pop! Probably an electrical open circuit in the cermaic portion of the plug, as the tip looked pretty intact and undamaged.

Anyway, to be safe, I had them replaced with NGK Iriway #8's. So far so good! Not too cold problems (misfiring, carbon build etc) or too hot problems (det).
