Question

Whist being serviced on Saturday, I am going to get the ECU reset. It seems to clear a starting problem (or at least for several months) but after the last reset the car doesnt seem to have the same level of boost as it did, particularly noticed in 2nd gear. The technician also commented straight after the reset that the engine revs 'dipped'.

The car is an unmodified MY98 - how do I treat it after the resest to return it too its original performance? I know the answers vary from rag the nuts of it above 4000rpm, to just various speeds/revs etc. Im sure its the later, but I want it back to its original performance !!!

I'm not sure if this is correct but I think the ECU goes through a kind of learning process after being reset. It might be that you need to give it a few days of running around and take it for some good long drives to allow it to properly adjust.

That ’s my understanding of it too. But anyone know how long the ECU is in this learning mode for ? ...and how to drive to get the car back to its original self?

Obvious to myself, I didn’t do something last time with the noted loss of power. As the car is completely standard the only thing done was the ECU reset.

Cheers

The dealer recently reset mine after a service and MAF sensor replacement. It was running really well until the other day (a week of town driving) when I got stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours. It seems different again - rougher - for want of a better word.

I am going to do a reset this weekend and give it a long drive so hopefully that will clear it up.

There is a thread somewher with instructions on how to reset it yourself....
