Centre diff idle bearing?
Hi all hope ur well I have an 2003 wrx with a chattery noise from the transfer section of the gbox.- mainly comes when warm- have checked the oil and found some evidence of a worn/eaten bearing. The tyres on the front are the wrong size - 205/40/17 where the rears are 215/40/17 (this is how I brought the car). I've seen that the idle bearings are a weak point-could be a possibility - how easy are these to replace? Gearbox code-ty754vn4aa- thanks for any input

The noise will almost certainly be a broken or damaged centre diff. They crack and crunch etc when damaged. That will have been caused by the wrong tyre match front to rear. The centre diff's are not particularly strong on those anyway and it wouldn't take much to break one.
New cost is circa £450 quid + VAT plus fitting which can be done without taking the box out of the car. Or chance a used box from somewhere [ not us ] and cross your fingers.
No point doing anything until you change the tyres, as you'll just wreck the next one too.
