Depends on you mechanical ability and what equipment you have. First time on a drive will take you two days. If your proficient and have a full workshop i.e a car lift/transmission jack/air tools it's 5-6 hours.

I took the engine out in about 5/6 hours and could do it in about 2 now, never done a clutch on a subaru but i did one on my izusu trooper which weighs a ton on my own and that took a day, but there is loads more to take off that, and 12yrs of offroad dirt and rusty cradle and bash plate bolts to deal with.

It's not technically difficult just awkward and time consuming if your crawling around on your back with jacks and axel stands.

The way i look at it is if someone was charging me £200 to do it and it takes 2 days i'm on £100 a day

Yip nasty job as above leave your self a lot of time - heavy old thing if your on your own - done it twice with car up on stands - ive a transmission jack which makes it easier(slightly) - my99 wagon had every bolt underneath seized so allow time for this - if you have room and can borrow a engine hoist take motor and box out in a oner - id go this route if i ever had to do it again but you need a lot of height and space for this - if your going for it ( and youl save yourself hundreds if you do) il list the tricks and traps youl come across

iain.

I would also add wear safety glasses/goggles and a pair of gloves as you will get crap in your eyes and you will bash your knuckles a lot

Cheers lads there will be 3/4 helping out doing it this weekend with all the tools available so should get it done in a day? Im assuming its the clutch as i can get gears when the engine is off but as soon as its on no gears and it just grinds when it tries to go in. Your thoughts>

Cheers
