I currently have a hawk STi and when the engine is cold its very hard to down shift into 2nd gear from 3rd ( works fine if you double declutch ) . Moving from 1st to 2nd is a bit notchy but nothing major. As soon as the engine is up to temp everything is smooth and no problems at all.
Now its using millers gearbox oil which was changed about 1k miles ago, this didnt solve the problem.
All i can think is it could be a syncro problem but before i get the box ripped apart ive been told Red Line lightweight shockproof oil could fix this?
Any thoughts ?

My wrx has always been notchy from cold, I have tried a few different oils but it never improved, once semi warm it was grand so have no intention of faffing with the box. I just see it as a characteristic of the box.

I can't guarantee any answer with this, but it could be worth a go, a lot of minor issues are solved by the Lightweight Shockproof.

I had a horrible notch from 2nd to 3rd on my WRX.I had some cheap fully syn oil in,changed to Millers TRX Semi,notch now gone & smooth as silk & only £26 for 5L inc delivery
