Newage 6 speed lightweight flywheels?
Hey all,
I'm expecting to need a clutch soon, it's not slipping yet, but it has been on the car for a very heavy 3+ years, involving many quarter miles, launches, sprint events etc.. Shows the amount of abuse APi Exedy Organics take But it's a matter of time before it needs changing I think.
So anyway.. is a lightweight flywheel worth it on a 6 speed? It made a nice difference on my old WRX 5 speed.. but haven't read too much about 6 speed flywheels.
Thanks

The options are a steel billet which generally weight 5.5 Kg's but the cost against value equation doesn't work in my opinion.
There are cheap billet flywheels out there but they generally don't have induction hardened starter ring teeth and after a while the starter won't engage or starts jamming.
The cost for hardening makes it impossible to buy one that is genuinely hardened - even from the far East.
Just give me a ring when you need me. David

Nope. they are the castellated type which makes skimming tricky, as the pivot [ clamp pressure ] of the clutch changes, if you move the face in relation to the height of the
' castles ' .
We have lightened them but usually all a day of work on the lathe gets is a 1 Kg saving and at £48.00 per hour plus VAT, times say 6 hours, makes it a worthless exercise in cost / value.
They are pretty well made in the first place without any excess weight to speak of.
But definitely not DM type. [ unless it has changed on the hatches which we see so few of.]
