I have a rather noisy 94 Subaru Impreza Turbo here. The noise is notable under load over about 50MPH. I hear there is a tendency to big end trouble - is this true? Any symptoms I should look for?

The check engine light has taken to appearing occasionally as well; the local distie is having trouble getting the diag kit. But that can't be affected by big end trouble can it?

What would need fixing if it does, and how easy is it to fix?
