Default Impreza turbo gearbox 2wd conversion

I want to use an impreza gearbox in a project car with a mid-engined rear-wheel drive longitudinal layout. The impreza gearbox is ideal because it has drive shafts coming out from the sides. It is also quite inexpensive. My question is will the impreza gearbox case and diff take 300bhp all on it or will it break under the power load.
Can anyone help please

Seeing as how the STi's have 276bhp as standard (with the traction for the transmission to have to handle all of it) then its an obvious yes.

Some early impreza's were FWD.

Other boxes to consider are the Audi ones as they have the same layout as the Scoobs, as well as the Renauly 21/25/40 boxes.

Certain STi's have front LSD's which would also be of help to you I guess!

Its not an obvious yes as the power is equally split front and rear (depending on center diff)

Erm yes, but all the torque goes through the gearbox doesn't it? And if you use a FWD gearbox then there is no issue with the front diff input shaft either.

All turbo's have a rear LSD as standard, not sure about some NA's, I know the very early 1.6/1.8's didn't.

Stock LSD on all but STi's is a farely soft viscous coupling, so it very much depends on what you've bought whether you already have it or not.

Drifiting in a non STi is not easy, they tend to understeer!
