URGENT: Engine Check Light - Diagnostics?
#1
Hi all
Friend of mine has a Jap import STi Wagon (Pre-97) that now has the engine check light come on.
Is there any way to diagnose what the problem might be?
How does the engine sense that there may be an engine fault?
Regards

Not sure about Jap cars, but on the UK models it has sensors to keep track of how the cars running. These are read by the ECU, so if it detects something outside the normal range, it flags the Check Engine Light.
On MY99 UK cars, you connect the two black connectors under the steering column. The CEL (Check Engine Light) will flash and tell you the code. Should show some long and short flashes.
32 - 3 long, 2 short is the Oxygen Sensor
Have a look through the last 30 days of post to see the others.
Disclaimer - I can only comment on MY99 UK models, so please check advice for Jap-specific beforing doing anything.
