Air Filter / Induction.......again
#1
I know it's probably been done to death, but as search is down here goes.
I currently have an ITG panel filter fitted. I'm looking to increase cold air flow safely, limiting the chance of damage to the MAF sensor. So far considered HKS Racing Suction, Blitz SUS and APS Cold Air Kit.
I realise there will be may opinions, but I will welcome all comments.

APS Cold air kit is by far the most expensive but IMHO the best, or if money is an issue go for the K&N 57i

why not matt? I've got the HKS 'green mushroom' kit on the blackbeast and it's fine. Though it is a MY94 and I think later cars have slightly different MAF (wire or something) which does not react well to some induction kits.

I ought to give you a call realy Chris, now I'm a customer
I have been looking at a FMIC as well, and looking at a more efficient filter / induction kit. From what I have seen and heard, the APS does look a decent bit of kit.
This should then compliment the MoTec I have had fitted; perhaps I should have really done things the other way round, but I'll get there in the end.
keep the replies coming guys - all appreciated.
Si
Edited to ask Chris where he got his APS from and roughly how much.

APS cool air kit is very good.
It's K&N 57i is considered MAF safe.
Cool air from the wing also makes a big difference.
Remember to block off the remaining holes back into the engine bay from the wing for maximum effect.
APS kit also holds MAF very steady since assembly is bolted to the wing - no flimsy brackets.
The downside (not a big one) is that you can't use it in conjuction with a large intake pipe (MAF to Turbo) without some buggering around.

Markus,
Just to let you know that the car that this happened on had another MAF go this weekend just to back this statement up.....
Matt.
Should have quantified that, if you've got an MY98> then steer clear. MAF contamination is a problem with these on the film type MAF's

I've got a Blitz Air filter for my UK 97 Turbo wagon. Is this going to ruin my MAF?
PS What the hell does MAF stand for? Is the air meter? Are these of the hot wire variety?
Cheers,
Rob

MAF sensor = Mass Air Flow sensor.... or AFM = Air Flow Meter..
something like that... i have a blitz SUS induction kit on my MY95 wrx and no probs so far.... its sucking in to much hot air thought...... the newer MAF sensors are the ones that have problems with induction kits.... i think..!
