Default rear diff temp light flickers on when pulling away from cold

Good morning,

hopefully someone may be able to help on here, i jumped in my car for the first time in just over a week and a half yesterday, it started no problem, but i noticed that when i pulled away and my speed got over 5-10mph the rear diff temperature light came on the dash. checked the book and this says that it only comes one when the diff oil is getting too hot. now this cannot be the case as i had only just started to drive the car.

I stopped and the light went off, so set off again and it came back on. Decided to pootle around until the car got properly warm, and as the car warmed up the light started to steadily only come up as the speeds increased. like 20, then 25, then 30 etc until it stopped coming on at all!!

i am thinking maybe an earth fault or somekind of electrical fault! checked the diff, no sign of any leaks and the plug is in the back of the sensor!

2005 sti type uk by the way! anyone help?

thanks,

Check the rear Diff oil temp sensor wiring, if you look under the rear of the car at the diff you will see the sensor half way up. Basically what happens is the wire isn't long enough that come outta the loom and as the diff moves up and down it tends to either loosen the connection inside the plug or break the wire off. all I do is cut the wiring and solder a small section into it and re-insulate it and the jobs a good one.
