noise coming from my sti type r rear diff?? help!
Hi
Im new on here, need your help guys!
I have a 99 v5 sti type v-ltd 2 door coupe DCCD, roof vent version.
The rear diff was making a noise when i was turning at low speed, today after a drive the noise has got alot louder when turning the car even at speeds??
I think it is the rear diff but im not sure??? Has anyone had a similar problem and know what this could be?
If it is the rear diff then how much would one cost me? or could it be a simple fix??? PLEASE HELP

went back to the car the next day and the noise has gone quite now?????
just like it was at first when i thought its a uprated lsd....so im thinking if it was knackered then the noise should be there all the time???
From what i know now, it gets alot louder when the car is fully upto temp after a drive, what does that mean???
Im thinking of changing the diff oil, which oil do i need for a R180 LSD diff? does anyone think that might help?
Cheers guys

If sound is a knocking/rattling sound. Then some can be noisey especially on low speed full lock turns, especially when diff gets hot. Also made worse when car is not in gear i.e. neutral or clutch depressed & then full lock. Mine makes the odd clicking noise when changing gear sometimes, but thats pretty normal for a 10 year old plus diff!
Iv heard that sometimes changing diff oil can make matters worse in terms of noise, especially if excessive diff additive is used. But I would still change the diff oil anyway.
