Default Mid mounted subaru engine and gearbox

Hello out there.

I am planning on stripping out a subaru impreza in the next few days for the running gear etc and putting the whole lot underneith a wait for it A reliant kitten and build a proper sleeper.

I was looking at putting the whole AWD system under the car but also was looking at not using the rear diff and mid mounting the engine and transaxle in the rear of the car.

Does any one know if you could run it this way without any ill effects???? I have read on the net that the subaru use a LSD in the transaxle for drive to the rear

my other thought was spin the whole lot around and put the engine in the back if it was possible to effectively spin the diff over in the cases and reverse the drive. Hope that makes sense

any ideas????

Easy, just source a FWD gearbox.... some early cars had only FWD so easy to fit in the rear. Except for routing a gear change mechanism.

As for flipping the diff. Sorry I don't know if there is enough room within the gearbox.

P.S. Try Howard @ H.D.C. Subaru....

5 speed reverse if you spin the whole lot round.

Thumbs up

A 2 litre turbo kitten... you're clearly insane. I'd love to see the look on the faces of the muppets you leave for dead in it... Take many many pictures - would make a great project thread

Hi mate sounds awesome, I know of a company that claim they can fit any engine to any car, they helped me out when I put a Suzuki hyabusa in The back of a classic mini, one of there own designs. When I went on one of the many visits they were in the middle of a tvr build running a big power skyline engine and running gear. They should be able to give you some sound advice. They have experience in that sort of thing. Check out www.zcars.org.uk I think. There in hull.
hope it's some help

Already have upset PLENTY of muppets around here with my Little truck.

she's 22 ft long weighs in at a round 3.3ton and is 4wd and has a little 6.6 litre turbo diesel V8 up front. Stock from the factory she has 365 HP and 650 ft/lb torque. But now thanks to a little tuning and zero restriction in the exhaust ( 4" stainless from turbo). There isn't much round here that can touch her @ full boost she is pushing 36psi of boost

now as for the my little kitten. I am debating the best plan. I have read on the net a firm call subarugears.com who do a reverse gear set for the subaru. So HUMMMMMM

I am thinking of supercharging the engine as I like the noise.

Fitting the engine shouldn't be much of a problem as I fitted a kawasaki ZX6R into a little microcar. 105 bhp in a 300 (i don't think so) kgs car
