Has anyone worked out their b4 Dawes and after Dawes mpgs ? I am curious as having borrowed and fitted a Dawes was surprised to see significant movement of the fuel gauge for minimal miles !!! And yes this could be my right foot...
Either way will probably remove the Dawes to maintain a decent mpg. Dawes was set for 1.1bar with a drilled hole and streched spring !

My Dawes is set for 1.05 bar and with a 1mm bleed hole. Yes the fuel consumption is high the first week or so, after you installed and play around with the Dawes, I think its mainly due to the testing and "I just need to feel the kick" behaviour. After 3 Month with the Dawes, I see, in averages, an additional fuel consumption of less than 10%.
On my last trip to France ( for skiing) I removed the Dawes, to save fuel, but It didn't helped a lot. Agerages use over 2.300 miles was 10,2 liter / 100 KM( 60miles) I don't know what this is in M/G.
I think fuel consumption is related to your driving behaviour, and to a very little extend to the additional power from the higher boost.

I used to get about 23mpg when the car was standard. Dropped to about 20/21 with full decat and with the Dawes it was 17.5

Thats a big drop - take it off again and it goes right back up. However, on long runs and motorways its hardly any different to what it was before......

The Dawes valve will not actually 'cause' a higher fuel consumption because it does not affect engine efficiency only gives the ability to provide more boost, earlier, and hence more power / torque. Therefore if this power is used (to accellerate more quickly) more fuel will be consumed! More right foot control is needed. Theory more low down torque should enable higher gears to be used more often and hence lower rpm - less engine wear
But one might argue, what is the point of more power if you don't make use of it!
