AIR FLOW METERS

HI THERE ....I HAVE A 99MY UK .I FITTED AN HKS POWERFLOW FILTER AND IT WIPES OUT MY AIR FLOW METER.I HAVE HAD TO PUT MY STANDARD AIR BOX (WITH RAMAIR INSIDE) BACK ON THE CAR!!! DOES ANYBODY OUT THERE HAVE ANY IDEAS ??I HAVE HEARD THAT IN JAPAN THERE IS A MODIFIED METER !

The Pre MY98 used a hot wire MAF, whereas 98+ use a thin film MAF. The hot wire type appears more resilient, BUT is not a straight plug-in replacement - so you're stuck with the thin film MAF I think.
I'm running a K&N induction kit which, to my knowledge, has yet to cause a MAF failure. They're cheap-ish too, at 70 quid-ish.
The other option is to replace your ECU with something that doesn't rely on a MAF, though this is really using a sledgehammer to crack walnuts

THANKS FOR THE REPLY ..WILL TRY THE K&N .HOPE IT'S AS GOOD AS THE HKS .WILL POST THE RESULTS.I ONLY GOT THE PROBLEM WHEN I PUT A S/S MANIFOLD ON IT AND REPLACED THE 1ST CAT (INCREASED AIR FLOW??)
