If I take the plunge and order a Jap STi7 will it be possible later on to get a ppp supplied & fitted?
If not, then do you think a UK STi with a ppp will be equally as quick as a Jap STi?

Cheers

Depends upon the components in the PPP. Since I'm not in the UK, nobody has that sort of thing here. An exhaust, certainly, a suspension setup, yes, but a re-tuned ECU, probably not.

John,

I very much doubt IM/Prodrive would sell you one and depending on what it consists of, it may not work on the Jap spec car anyway. I would also imagine that the PPP STi would be better than the Jap STi (assuming you don't mod the Jap STi (unlikely? )).

Forgive my ignorance on these matters, but isn't the ecu the ORAC of the car, ie; if you put a PPP on a jap STi, wouldn't you just effectively have a UK PPP STi car - and be better off with the fuel maps, etc. I'd remove the cats tho'.

What other engine components would change between Jap and UK? Surely they wouldn't bother?

Fosters, ORAC????

Well it all depends on what the PPP will consist of. If it's an ECU replacement then technically, you may be right but at the end of the day, you're not going to be able to buy one (unless by very deviuos methods).

The reason I ask is purely monetary
A Jap Sti I can get for £20,000 and a UK STi for about £23,500 I just didn't know enough about ppp's, ecu's etc.
£3,500 is a big saving for a higher spec car but I'm still not convinced I want the stigma attached to having a 'grey import'
ie- higher insurance, no warranty, no dealer service etc.

We tested a UK STI 7 last weekend, and I have to say it's a great car. With a replacement S/S exhaust, it produces 300 BHP with no other mods, and no det problems. The UK holds over 15PSI at the redline, and just keeps pulling. Haven't seen an import yet, but when I do, I'll let you know the differences in mapping.

Cheers

Steve
