Default Clutch advice

I bought an 02 wrx ppp wagon with 60k on the clock.
I've covered about 4k in it so far so good but I do know why the owner was sat in it with the engine running before I turned up.

The clutch judders but looking through threads it seems to be a re-occurring theme from scoobies.

If I start the car from cold and set off as I would in my other car, it judders like a bar steward shaking the car.

My cure for this is to set off letting the clutch our slowly with almost no revs on the clock, just enough to give it some bit but around the 1k revs mark.

After I set off the problems gone.

How long do you think I can run it like this? - it doesn't really bother me as I have a work around it.

How many miles has the car done. And , how high up is the biting point of the clutch that'll give me something to base any advice on.

Hi David,

It's now covered 64k in total. I checked the biting point last night and can report the following:

After starting the car from cold, I let the clutch out slowly in first gear without any revs and the car starts to creep forward with 1/3 of the pedal out and then moves of with 1/2 the pedal out, again without my foot on the accelerator.

Once out on the road when the car has warmed up, it's a good halfway up the pedal.

There might not be a hard and fast rule for replacement, I just want to know if I should start saving now.

Cheers

Matt

Matt, it doesn't sound too bad, I'd expect that you have 5 -6,000 miles before it become's critical, assuming regular use and no track days, or 1/4 mile stuff..... As long as the judder doesn't drive you crackers before that.

BUT the local bailiff runs a Forester and we look after it for him. He came in with a slipping clutch and I advised that if he drove it carefully, it would last until we could get him in in 3 days time.

ONE hour later it arrived here on a trailer - so what do I know ??

Probably best to ask for money at Xmas
