Classic- What centres the gear stick as mine doesnt return to the middle...
Hi Guys,
I have a 1998 version 4 classic Type R.
The gearstick doesnt seam to centre its self anymore in the middle of the gate if that makes sence?
What keeps the gearstick or returns it to the centre position?
As i want to know what i need to replace.
Any help would be great!
Cheers
Jimmy

You have a spring missing from the selector shaft above the gearbox just in front of the prop shaft to the rear.
See here Manual gear shift system ? Illustration #2, Subaru IMPREZA ? Subaru parts catalog
part 20, bottom left. Think the part number is 33022GA081 but best to check.

Hey thats great thank you so much for the link!!!
Its very very helpful!!
Have checked under the car and the spring is still there perhaps its just been well used and seen better days.
Is interesting how it works i would of thought it would need a spring the other side aswell to keep it in the middle, obvioulsy it doesnt.
Does anyone have a prefered mail order Subaru main dealer parts supplier?
I used to use Cheam Subaru but have sent several emails to them about other parts but havent heard anything back so on the hunt for someone else.
Cheers
