Gearbox Type - Help Please?
#1
I have a friend that has just been able to lay his hands on a almost new impreza Gearbox but the case look different to the others that we have seen.
on th usual one it has a blank plate on top of the box with 4 bolts however the new box does not and on the side of the case is moulded FM5
I was thinking, could it be out of a Version 5?
Any information will help

errr.... not true.
I have a 2.2 with a normal type r gearbox, adn the gearbox casing is identical. It makes no difference as the flat four blocks have the same external design!
Also the type r boxes dont need an active diff, a normal one will fit, it just wont be electronically controllable.
Pat retro fitted an active centre diff in his car, and did some trickery to get it working like any other. I assume you can do teh same the opposite way round.
