OK I have a problem with my impreza. It intermittently cuts out, you are driving along and the engine dies. No splutter, just stops - and then coasts to a hault. It then will not restart until it has cooled down.

When its not working, I can get no spark out of it.

It has a new fuel pump, its getting fuel - no problem.
Its not getting a spark. After a while it will restart, something is failing when it gets hot and then works when its cold.

It has an aftermarket ECU which appears to be fine according to my laptop. I have changed sensible things such as the coil/ignitor pack and the crank position sensor - but still I have the intermittent problem.

The only other thing I can think of that drives the ECU to spark is the cam pos sensor which is an **** to change, anyone got any bright ideas?

You got to be joking, I'm always fiddling with it, perhaps thats the problem...

I have spoken to a few Subaru dealers over the phone, and their answer is dunno, you've done what I would have...

 

Er, don't mention me in the same breath as "Awesome Lawson", I only know a little bit about boost control and that is it. Hope you get it sorted. FWIW, I have no suggestions other than what you have tried as well.
