Gearbox Removal

take the engine out is easier ?
if your taking out the box on the floor mind your nose is my hint
just disconect the battery, take out starter motor, then the prop and shafts, loosen the bell housing bolts, then the gearlever, they support the box and undo the rear mount, take out the bell housing bolts and wiggle it about/pry it off
getting it back on i recomend phoning a friend to help

Yep engine is easier No need to phone a friend to refit.
Personal preference really. Don't see why I should struggle humping heavy things when I don't have to.
Takes about the same amount of time either way....

i hate fitting engines though, all them poxy hoses to do up, changing fluids and the scratches/ dents in the car taking em out and back in again,, not sure what i would prefer tbh
ive never done one on a scoob before but im about to in the next few weeks,,, looks easy enough tbh recon 3 to 4 hours along as it seperates and it lines back up again though i will be using ramps rather than lying on a driveway
hope it dont weigh 100kgs though

I used a fourposter both times with a 2 metre transmission jack, and I still prefer to to take the engine out! That box is sodding heavy and I hate disconnecting the front suspension hubs from the swinging arms.
Scooby engines come out a doddle, don't even have to remove the bonnet, and the bulk of the work is seperating the engine from the box anyway.
Not many pipes to undo after that. Lay the aircon comp and alternator were the battery was. Lay the power steering pump were the airbox was. Don't have to disconnect any of it. Disconnect 3 fuel pipes and 3 plugs by the battery and the throttle cable. Left side disconnect exhaust below the turbo, vac pipes to boost sol, and a couple small pipes at the front from the emission cannister. Whip out the rad. Undo the engine mount nuts and lift the donk complete with both manifolds. Simples
Good luck Ginge, don't take any risks under that box and let us know how you get on.
