hi all just wanting some ideas on a knocking sound from back of the car. cars a 2001 wrx bug eye it sounds like its coming from n/s/r and only hear it when slowing down, ive checked the suspention and thats fine it seems to be on the drive side of things, but stuck on where to start looking just wondering if anyone else has had this problem

The rear shocks knocking is a known issue on bug and blobeye models; apparently they're not necessarily faulty, they just make a lot of noise!
My o/s/r shock on my bug was found to be knackered when I came to have the car lowered after about 62,000 miles.
A colleague at work had the knocking issue with his much lower mileage 05 blob WRX - rear struts both knocking, but seemed okay - he said it was just really annoying.
Subaru replaced his shocks under the warranty.
Apparently this issue wasn't fixed until the Hawkeye model.
There's a big thread on it somewhere in the suspension forum IIRC.
Drop links are unlikely to knock like that unless they're broken I'd say!

I have this too on my 04 STI, knocking from rear at low speed. I think the only reason you can hear it at low speed is due to road and air noise drowning it out. Aparently to sort it, jack the car up can grease up the shocks by lifting up the rubber covers. This will need doing every few months or so. Im going to be doing it very soon and will let you know if it cures it....

Hi all, just to let you know that Subaru didn't sort the shocks on the Hawkeye models
Mine started to knock on 30000 miles had that replaced and now the other side has started! both on the rear of the car. I wont be replacing with Subaru shocks there I will be saving my penny's for some after market stuf.

Nice one cheers mate, If I'm going to fix it i'd rather do it with new shocks from another source but they don't come cheap and I've got other things to spend my cash on rather than curing a squeak.
I'll try jacking it up and getting some grease in there for now.
