What gains on MYO1 PPP with full exhaust system???
#1
Have PPP on MY01 and would like to know what if any difference changing the rest of the exhaust will make and also will it be TOO loud?? (And also what about the check engine light??)

Yep - it'll go like stink if you de-cat it!
You must combine any D/P with the link Up-pipe as well otherwise you may get problems (ie it'll go bang!!) with UL fuel.
Im looking into a sports cat to get round the Check Engine problem - otherwise its a black box soldered onto your PPP im afraid.
I'd expect 260-270 bhp and about the same torque???

Jza is correct - there are at least two seperate problems that you'll come across on the MY01 PPP if you de-cat from the turbo back without removing the upppipe cat;

- some people who have boosted their cars have sufferred failures of the uppipe cat resulting in parts going through the turbo and damaging it.
- Pete Croney tried this set-up on a rolling road and was of the opinion that it was too close to the retard limit of the standard ECU, risking damage from detonation etc.
- you'll have to change the boost control to avoid over-boost (not to dificult, just a change to the size of the restrictor)

George, this is the same route i have followed and am VERY pleased with the results as per the rr thread, since adding the full de-cat to my MY01 PPP i am now getting 285 bhp - 258 lb/ft, the difference in the car with the de-cat added is amazing, there were 4 MY01 PPP cars with full de-cats at the rr on saturday all were putting out simialr figures, DO IT NOW!!

Elgordano, no you won't but you won't get the great performance hike either. You'll need to do PPP then decat, or Decat then Unichip to see the 285bhp that Simon refers too. I would get the Unichip as its cheaper than PPP and more flexible as you can remap if you change something.

Unichip is on the cards, but I had planned after the full decat was complete. Sounds like this is possible without any of the boost problems mentioned earlier.
Thanks all. Sorry for hijaking your thread.

Thanks everyone I'm still unsure about the noise, I had a full system on my MY99 and it sounded brilliant, but it was too noisy - I felt a bit of a **** whilst sitting in the daily grind. Is it as loud as the older car or is it a bit more sensible??

Nope - waiting for TSL to see if they are going to do a catted version.
I dont really want to start soldering wires onto my ecu. Seems like your fixing the problem by bodging rather than finding the cure - so if i only lose a bit of BHP by using the sports cat - and avoid the dreaded soldering - im going that route!!
Trouser - had any thoughts???

Stupid question but what is the up pipe? + Why is a scoobysport pipe different to the standard pipe?
Also am i right in saying the PPP 'zorst already a decat centre section, Prodrive BB and a standard up and down pipe?
If so will the warranty be voided by putting the up and down pipe on??(the whole point of getting the PPP)
We have recently bought a UK300PPP and what to give it the kick in the back sensation of our old MY99 with decat centre and magnex bb
any help would be great!

mcbrun555,
Because of the boxer layout of the impreza engine, the exhaust manifold is on the bottom. The turbo is at the back, half way up, so there is an "up pipe" that goes up from the manifold to the exhaust side of the turbo.
It's got a cat in it on the MY01.
The "down pipe" is the pipe that exits the turbo and heads for the rest of the exhaust system.

George, there is more induction noise from under the bonnet and the backbox is slightly louder even though i have kept the PPP one, but for the increase in performance the extra noise is something you will soon appreciate rather than worry about, + Peltor do some very good childrens ear defenders
