The diff ratios for Uk Turbo Classics are very simple as they all run exactly the same set up.

Front diff = 3.9

Rear Diff = 3.54

JDM cars however do change depending on the model year and spec of transmission.

You can have either 3.9, 4.1 or 4.4's, the other difference is that the front diff will be the same ratio as the rear as they have a 1:1 drop gear fitted in their gearboxes, where as a UK car has a 1.1:1 drop gear, hence the differing ratios

Well then in that case your chart is very wrong I'm afraid

The only classic shape (1993 - 2000) uk impreza to run a 4.1 is an auto which ran both a front and rear 4.1 diff.

2wd drive classics with a manual box ran either a 3.9 or a 3.7

All 4wd manual versions ran a 3.9 front & rear with the exception of the turbo versions which ran a 3.54 at the rear.

Edited to add that the above does not include the P1 which was effectivley a JDM car with a UK vin plate.

ALL UK Imprezas run 3.545 rear with a 1.1:1 dropper exactly as explained above. With the drop gear the rear axle becomes the equivalent of 3.9:1 and funnily enough the front axle is 3.9.
As already explained above this is the case for all UK Impreza MY93-00 (and beyond).

I would agree with that statement Daz

In which case, if you wan't to fit a rear diff from a bug/blobeye wrx to a 99 uk car you would also need the rear shafts/hubs & brakes to go with it, wouldn't you?

No the diff from a UK Bug /Blob WRX and none DCCD STI should be the same. ie an R160

I got a six speed from an 03 STI and that fitted straight onto my UK 99. No rear diff hubs or shafts were needed.

yup, agree that a 6 speed gearbox will fit a classic car without the need for a rear diff change.

But, Hodgy is not looking at fitting a gearbox, he is looking to fit a newage rear diff into a 99 classic, now that we have established that it is a 160 size unit fitted to the newage wrx, I have looked at the parts system and it tells me that the rear driveshafts fitted on a 99 classic are differen't to those on a newage wrx.

The inner cv joint that slots into the diff is "sided" on a 99 car i.e. left & right, so the drive shafts cannot be swapped over.

On the newage cars however, the shafts are the same and can be fitted either side, so I summise that if you fit the diff unit from a newage into a classic, you wont get the shafts to lock into the diff & you can't just fit the shafts from the new age vehicle as they won't then fit the classic hubs as the hubs on the classic are smaller, as are the brakes, so I think he will find that he would need to fit the diff, shafts & the brakes to make things work.
