Default Clutch slip or failing Viscous Coupling?

Hi,
I've got 90k miles on my 98 WRX that I've owned from new. Just recently I thought my clutch was beginning to slip. Accelerating up a hill on the motorway in 5th gear and the revs shot up but the speed didn't :-) Less vigorous acceleration and no probs. As you'd expect the problem has got gradually worse. Hard acceleration in lower gears can also provoke clutch slip...or is it?
A really weird thing, I accelerated out of a bend in third gear and got clutch slip and then I didn't! half way through the corner it just felt as though I'd got drive again. Is there a test I could do to try and pinpoint the real problem?
Hope you can help

Regards
Doug

I'm guessing the gearbox needs to come out for either of them. As this clutch has been in for 50,000 miles I'd fit a new one anyway. So I'm hoping it is just the clutch.
Any one got any suggestions?

Doug

Same as when my clutch went. Drop the box or lift the engine out.

Clutch, not a massive job to drop the box out if your handy with the spanners

Got to say I'm pretty relieved that everyone thinks it's the clutch. That'll save a bit!
I'm really not that skilful with spanners so I'll have to take it in. Can anyone recommend a decent independent spanner man in sensible distance of Basingstoke?

Doug
