Default Gearbox Pitch Mount? Engine Mount? V4 Type R

Have a problem with my transmission, when taking up the drive and coming off, the gearlever itelf moves a couple of centremetres. Also when coming off the throttle, the car will lunge forward a little, and bounce around at the front. This is quite major when on the motorway, doing 70 accelrating, taking the foot off the throttle it lunges and kicks to the side a little...

Im think pitch mount and engine mounts? Or unless anyone else has any suggestions!

Ive had a look at where i thought the pitch mount is, but it dosent seem to be there, however a suspension/piston type unit is? is this correct for V4 Type R's...where would i get a replacement from?

cheers all!

The arrowed item in this pic is the pitch stop thingy;

It's under your intercooler. Other than that, I can't help further I'm afraid, although I did see some bling ones on Ebay.

Thanks for that dude..

Ive had a damn good look and it dosent seem to be there, only a rear piston type support bar, ill try and take a picture of it and post up....if the pitch mount isnt there, this could possibly be the route of my problems?

I would assume it may be, as it's an engine mount of sorts.

Stops the engine diving forward under braking, IIRC.

What difference did you see after fitting the hardrace kit? I've been looking at them too.

Thanks,Mit

I found the pitch mount, i didnt realise it was literally right under the IC!...seems in decent condition...which is making me wonder what the problem is? ill check out the race mounts in the group buys in a sec...

any idea on why the gear lever moves back and forth when taking up and coming off drive? mainly in 4th and 3rd...?

If you look at a new pitchstop compared to an old one the floating bushes can be pretty sad, dried and shrunken. I replaced mine with a solid one and it was brilliant. More tranny noise but no movement at all. You get no lift off movement and the whole progression of the car through the gears acceleration is so much more purposeful.

Your problem seems a lot more evident that a crap PStop though. Check it is torqued properly. Bolt on the firewall is 58n-m(42.8ft-lbs) Bolt on trans is 50n-m(36.9ft-lbs).

Thankyou for that 53wrx,legend.

ill deffinately check the torque settings at the weekend. If it is torqued up correct, would you still think the gearstick movement could be down to the bushes on the PS being knackered?

There are four engine mounts, two either side, the transmission mount and the pitch stopper, any one or a combo can create the problem, mine used to lurch a bit, but since I fitted an STi trans mount its gone away.
