Question

Hi
Just ran into a very cocky workshop manager, who refuses to believe that it is a bad idea to overfill with engine oil.

What are the main reasons for this being bad for the car (big-end bearing falure, boost-controll solenoid contamination etc.).

Thanks

Talking

Boost Control Solenoid and associated pipe contamination/blockage (and if I was a Subaru dealer, I could pull out the IM Technical Buletin which says so )

Also, check out the SIDC FAQ and look at Wastegate Solenoid.

Overfill it too much and hot oil will overflow onto hot metal and ignite, however it has to be bad for this to happen. Puts extra strain on piston rings etc also.

the added oil pressure in the system will put strain on your seals, and/or cause them to blow out. it's a baaaaad idea all around.
