Default Need a strong drivetrain so do I buy a WRX or STI?

After a 10yr gap in Subaru ownership and probably a similar period of time since I last logged on this bb I am about to take the plunge into Subaru ownership again but I need some advice from you guys before I buy the wrong car!

Since my MY95 JDM WRX got nicked in 1999 I ended up spending the last 10 years in RWD cars (e46 M3, TVR T350, S1 Elise) and have recently been drifting an E36 325, hence my next Subaru is going to be a bit of a project.....

I've seen all the threads about converting to RWD and I am going to take the plunge into a centre spool conversion and I'll weld the rear diff too but I'd like not to keep having to regularly replace various parts of the drivetrain.

So should I look for a UK spec STI, JDM spec car or just stick with the regular UK WRX? I've seen reference to R160 and R180 diff and driveshafts but don't know which models are referred to and what the strength difference is. I also have mates who are rally technicians for WRC teams so have contacts for parts but want to make sure I have the right base car.

I'm wanting to spend around the £5k mark before mods but would spend more if it meant getting a stronger car.

Any pointers you guys can give me in respect of the different drivetrains on the MY 2000+ cars would be gratefully received. Oh and I promise to post updates on the project if anyone is interested!

Cheers
Did

Will do mate. Hoping to make some enquiries at a local specialist tomorrow to see if they want to take on the work and also to see if they can recommend which route to go for the base car.

Still looking for pointers though so if any of you techy experts can help please shout!

Just left him a message so hopefully he'll give me a shout back. Literally just need someone to tell what what's the best base car to buy and agree that they can do the work. I even have the guy who welded me the diff on my last drift car ready for me to drop him the subaru diff off when I get one. Hoping it's not going to take very long all in. There seem to be plenty of cars for sale at 5k or less.
