Question

asked this in general tech. to no avail, so here goes...

can anybody tell me how these (oil temp gauge) work? or more to the point any likely reasons why mine isn't working??

all the connections into the back of the gauge appear to be ok, the oil pressure gauge works fine but i get no reading what so ever (on the oil temp gauge).

any ideas??

You need to determine if its the sender or the gauge at fault. Get some leads with crocodile clips and ground the senders connections. If you do this then the needle should go to max, if it doesn't budge then your gauge could be at fault. I've had it happen in 2 cars and both times the sender was faulty not the gauge.

I really dont know as you must be running extra gauges and it will be dependant on where the sender is situated, but you could try the following:

Sorry have just re-read your post, the diagnosis I have written is for pressure not temp. Still think it will be the sender though.
