Piston slap and clutch Ques.............
#1
Hello,
A couple of questions for you..............
1) I've not long had my MY98 turbo (3 weeks) and starting it t'other day sounded like the dreaded piston slap, is this a warranty fix (Extended Subaru warranty)?
2) The gearbox baulks when selecting first with foot on brake, or chrunches going into reverse, is this the clutch about to pack in (are these self-adjusting?)
Love the car to bits , just don't want to spend c£1200 after just buying the thing!!!
Cheers and TIA
Paul

I had my piston slap sorted on extended warranty.
First dealership told me it was my imagination(Northants),second told me I did have 'the slap!'(Heritage, cheers!).
After it is decided you have slap, because its an extended warranty, the company send out thier own technician,he does a report, which is given back to the warranty company who then say yes or no.
Bear in mind that if the tech says it isnt very severe it wont be fixed, unlike original 3 year warranty which is a no quibble agreement, the extended warranty only covers you for mechanical breakdown,so if the tech thinks its just a bit noisy, the warranty wont pay up.
Hope this helps,
steve

My piston slap was sorted on extended warrenty, with no problems. Also selecting first gear in the morning, is usually OK, but the change to reverse to get out of the drive can be a bit notchy, once warm there is no probs. You WILL know when your clutch is on the way out.

Cheers all
I've asked the garage to listen for the piston slap, and my clutch is being replaced as we speak/type. There was no actual slip from the clutch but it just got harder and harder to select a gear.
Once again , thanks all.........
