30,000 miles or 3 years, although I change at shorter intervals than this.
Worth checking the service records to make sure it's been done (16,000 miles ago!)
75w/90 Semi-synthetic eg Castrol Driveline (Syntrax)

it doesnt mention it at all on the service records, would subaru have done at the service near that mark then?

Shall I just do it to be safer than sorry?

Yes, I would assume it was done at the appropriate service. It wouldn't have required a specific mention as plugs, air filter etc would have been replaced at that service, as well.

You ideally need to see the history, it could have been 16000 miles ago, or it could have been the last service. Given the miles it will most certainly have been serviced based on age in recent times, so it may have had it done recently or it's due very soon.

Given the uncertain history you should consider getting it done anyway. I would also check when the cambelt was changed as it's due at 45000 or every 5 years. One presumes it was done around 2005, and due again next year.
