APEXi or...

...exhaust manifold?
May be stupid question but I am between the two for my next modification, an APEXi AVC-R electronic boost controller or a good equal length exhaust manifold. Which modification do you guys suggest me and why?
Bear in mind more important for me is the reliability and smoothness, I could say prefer the torque in low rpm. Car is a MY2000 Impreza PPP with Magnex downpipe.
Thanks in advance.

I would go for the AVC-R. On the PPP you can happily run 18PSI in the midrange (at least in Scotland). You can get a substantially beefier boost and therefore torque curve which is wider higher and flatter than the PPP - it sort of fills in the ends if you like.
The AVC-R has all the right features for a boost controller.
Have some gone a bit lean when adding a manifold as well as a downpipe or am I thinking of RBScott's MY01 PPP?
You may also wish to consider a Dawes MBC with a 2mm bleed hole? Fairly smooth on part throttle but not as good as smooth as a good EBC, will give same results as the AVC-R overall I reckon and 15 times cheaper.
Boost controller works fabulously well with the PPP's >19PSI fuel cut and nice mapping.
