Default Transmission Whine?

If it happens does it always end up being the worse case scenario - something's gotta be replaced?

I only get it when my car is slowing down and it doesn't happen all the time.

Gearbox oil just be changed along with new clutch & flywheel.

1999 WRX.

Cheers.

That sounds like rear diff whine....

Its common on Subaru's and based on the experiences of a friend (diff builder for Prodrive for a while) it seems to be due to a loss of bearing preload (the very stiff diff casing means they run little diff preload, and a tiny amount of wear means the preload disapears and they can whine), its not fatal and a simple reshim to resore the preload fixes it.

I bought my subaru, after about a month it started slipping, then after 2-3months its makes a very loud wineing noise, my mate says its something to do with the greese on the clutch its wearing out.

Im getting my clutch redone. But i hear you need flywheel too. Not too sure.

I thought the flywheel would be a 5min job but the guy sounded like its will cost more.

If I get clutch done, without flywheel done will it slip?
