Unichip ? Superchip? or not bother?

If it was me I wouldn't bother , having seen "chipped" cars alongside non chipped cars there ain't alot between them , the cars feel faster but are not that much quicker on the road . I wish I had left mine standard now .

Depends who does them.
If they're not done well they won't be much quicker.
If they are, they will.
It will never give you the power to obliterate a similar non chipped car, but it will make it easy for you to keep up with a std one, whereas a std one will be wringing it's nuts out trying to keep up with the chipped car.

Even with the rubbish TD04L turbo on the 98 onwards you can get substantial improvements and retain smoothness. >20% increase in peak power as well as a much wider torque curve are certainly worth having. As for flexibility - how does 50-70 in 5th gear in just over 5 seconds compared with just over 8 seconds grab you? I find it very hard to bog down my car on lauch now and can genuinely get the performance of one gear lower compared with the car as standard, sometimes more.

The Unichip prepared by TurboXS for my US market WRX absolutely transformed the car. Until I became accustomed to the new boost curve and horsepower it was a little unsettling. A friend is using a manual boost controller on his WRX to reach the same manifold pressure I do, but his car isn't as fast.

Presumably you have better fuelling and timing Abel. I like the system some of the tuners in the US are running where you have a Unichip and can return it for updates and they store maps for many different combinations of modifications - whilst a bit "one size fits all" and not optimised to the individual car, a conservative set of maps is very convenient.

You are absolutely right about the fuel and timing. Mark at TurboXS does a terrific job matching the map to the modifications on the car. The new setup (I've just had it in for re-programming) comes with an auxiliary boost controller that allows me to adjust my boost level when significant altitude and temperature conditions cause it to deviate from optimum.

Harvey, have a look at www.wolfems.com.au
These systems are amazing and you can carry out - if you know what you are doing - using the hand held controller the complete re-map of the engine. It also has display so you can have it on and displaying all your current readings whether it be boost AF,load..

Got any Dyno runs to show power difference ?
The Unichip is my favourite at the moment but I need to complete my exhaust upgrades first.

Fundamentally the Unichip is the only re-mappable `Chip` that allows the parameters that matter to be altered whilst every other function of the original ECU is maintained - Cold start, Hot start, Load rejection etc etc.
Most benefit on part throttle performance, reasonable improvement in WOT. I had a Boost controller fitted prior to the Unichip and the above applies running the same boost before and after.
UK 00MY Unichip plus other stuff, approx 270bhp and lovely wide torque band.....

They would be ideal together - each one resolving the other's shortcomings to a large extent. But alone you get more mojo for your £ with the Dawes at least on a MY99/00 UK car.

Got a my99uk with decat and back box (custome made 2.5") with k&n filter, on a roling road day last week i got 235bhp (at John Nolands RR) it seemed very consistant , not flattering figures.
235 sounds about right for them mods run on optimax with 35k on the clock.
Buit i only got 209 lbt, the lowest of all the cars, even an un modded 98 got 210 (i know the is nothing in it) but why the loss of torque. It was fuling fine and boost as .9. COuld it be my custom zaust? the dude who made it advised me against a bog bore as he said ill loose torque. Any ideas?
