I've got a v5 type R and the big ends have gone. Its fine on tickover, but once you rev in it to 2500rpm it clonks badly. It sounds like the right bank. I've been told re-building is not a good option(£5000+). A new block is around £2800 plus fitting (£3500+). Does anyone know if i can do it cheaper and do v3 & v4 engines fit to v5 ancillaries. HELP i cant afford to fix it. Any ideas welcome. I know it sound bad but what about thick oil and part ex it.

Exclamation

You will have to strip down first - you may not need a new block, but a std Short Motor from Subaru is 1040 + VAT.

Good luck

Unlikely to need a block, more likely need a crank regrind a new rod and bearings, expect to pay more like £2000-£2500, if its done properly should be as good as new contact me if you need more info.
I,ve been there........
