Heatshields on or off?
#1
The drivers side heatshield at the very front of the car (on the exhaust manifold) has started rattlin' agen. It's about the third time now that one of them has done this and i'm gettin a bit pi55ed off with them now . It makes a very horrible and loud noise at times, sounds like my car's fallin' apart to pedestrians!
Would it make any negative differences takin' them off (and possibly using sum exhaust rap to keep the heat of the engine)? Has anybody done this, or got any other suggestions?
Cheers,
Tony.
P.S my cars the early type, i.e without the plastic undertray for the engine.

Interesting
I got a scoobysport downpipe fitted a few months ago buy my dealer, they said that it should be ok without the heat shield, but told me to ask scoobysport anyway.
Scoobysport said that there are lots of people running their cars without the shield, and that it shouldn't cause any problems.
Just wondering what I should do now.

Sorry guys but i think you've got the wrong end of the stick. Im not talking about the turbo heatshield attached to the downpipe, it's the one on the exhaust manifold i.e you have to stick your head under the front offside of the car to see it.
Anyone taken these off?
Tony.

I took mine off about 6 months ago and so far no problems.
I spoke to a few others on here who have done it and they hadn't suffered any ill effects either.
Just to be on the safe side I did as you are thinking and used some exhaust wrap.
The only thing is its very fiddley getting the heat shield off and getting the wrap on right.Once the wrap is on you then spray it with a coating to protect it from the weater. The wrap will still soak up a bit of moisture so when you start out and the manifold heats up it steams a little but no other problems so far.
Hope this helps
