Default What is a double cone 3rd syncro?

As per title, according to the gearbox codes mine has this. Does it make it make it less likely to lunch 3rd if running 410/440? Anyone else running these figures with an STI 4 box, whats the general census on reliability?

Cheers

SK

The double cone synchro creates greater friction/torque for synchronising to the relative gear and provides a better shift "feel".
IMHO - At the power/torque figures you have quoted - its only a matter of time before the gearbox strips something.

That hp & torque on a TY 752 anything, means it'll be toast sometime soon. Don't waste any money on it - upgrade.

Even a TY754 from a 99-on car, will not last too long at that power and torque.

Time to start saving for a PPG or a 6 speed conversion.

This is the latest round of abuse this box has taken (probably in excess of quoted power levels running @ 1.8 bar ) YouTube - clspc94's Videos I did 12 runs in total! Is it possible that I have a decent box or do they just give up at random moments?

car does go very well mate. but the gearbox will let go at some stage without warning.
i would go for the PPG to keep the weight down the 6 speed is a very heavy unit

David @ API does a cracking lightened flywheel and clutch kit that i put in mine too

Well, a smooth thing.

I'm OK with it - my lot came from County Cork a few generations ago. Our name is O'Brien which as every true Irishman knows, means I am a relative of Brian Boru - one time King of the place . So watch it, or l'll pull a few strings

I just wanted to make sure all these commoners understood us Micks & Paddies
