knocking noise
noticed a knocking noise when i pull off and sometimes when i dont change gear smoothly. Sounds like its coming from the rear.
Wondered if it was the diff engaging and is this normal?

Diff
For tarmac use, always have it set fully to the back.... mmmmm side ways action!! Otherwise you risk damage to the diff.
Moving it forward will make it harder to turn and usually make a huge clunk when it releases!!!
Ive found I only ever needed it move forward in heavy snow.

Dan,
Check you havn't got a loose driveshaft nut. I had an annoying clunk for ages until I found my NSF driveshaft nut had loosened. Easy to check, just pop out the wheel centrecaps and look to see if the staking on the big nuts is in the groove on the driveshaft. If it isn't then the nut has moved.
