Maybe Its just my lack of understanding of how DCCD works internally then, but I dont understand how a little box like that can alter where the power gets shifted to.

I thought that diffs would have to be changed etc

The box Colin refers to is the control box which, if it is the same as the GEMS controller can be mapped to give five different settings. Like dry, wet, gravel, snow and Ditch!!!!!!!!!!!!! (all four wheels locked)
This clever box of tricks operates the DCCD which is the rear part of the gearbox in place of the centre viscuos and yes it can be retro fitted in place of a viscuos ctr diff.

Right so I would need to change mechanical parts then?

Not if you already have or are fitting in a dccd box just add the controller

Yes.
Swap the centre viscuos that is bolted on the rear of your existing gearbox for a DCCD unit. Quite easy to swap them over.

box out is easier. I am doing this to my classic very soon. Just got hold of the diff and am waiting for my auto controller from Spiider’s DCCD Shop that cost 150 quid delivered.

Email jeff for any info you need,

Wayne

That was a nice find Wayne. Thanks.

As already said, it is far better to do it with the box on the floor which is no big deal. It can be done with the box in situ but not if you have not done it before and you need a proper ramp. Rally teams can do it in the service area without removing the box in no time flat on axle stands but us lesser mortals..............

Just spoke to API, he has the required parts in stock for this, quite happy to do the mechanical side of things but I will need to find someone to fit the controller. Any ideas?

The controller I am fitting only has 5 wires, iirc.

2 to the dccd itself
2 power supply wires
1 to the tps on the ecu

The rest of its operation is controlled via the g sensor which is bonded in place.

So its realtively easy to do this yourself. The OE controller is a different kettle of fish. Ask 911(Graham) about his install.

Wayne.

Ahh that seems easy enough, I was expecting lots more wires than that

The ones that Jeff sells on his site range from the standard manual controller to the fully auto version that rivals the DCCD-A of the later cars. I have order the latter.

Wayne.
