Question

I am currently running a 6"x4" Magnex backbox with a Scoobysport mid-section and Scoobysport downpipe. The exhaust noise is nice and the power gains are as good as to be expected.

However, I have noted that my exhaust is much quieter than others and now that I've got used to the noise the magnex makes I want a bit more.

Having heard the Scoob in the KFC advert I'm after the same kind of exhaust note.

I have heard the Scoobysport exhaust and this comes close. I have not heard the TSL backbox but saw a thread somewhere and somebody commented that it sounded amazing.

I'm not really interested in HKS or other makes with such large diameter exit pipes as I would probably rip it off with some of the hills where I live.

Any comments appreciated.

Damian.

Cheers M8,

I've heard plenty of Scoobysport Exhausts and read plenty. Whereas the TSL I've not heard and very little has been posted about them.

I've heard both, there isn't much in it sound wise, they both give a similar burble.. the TSL has a better quality finish on the back box... looks really nice I've heard the TSL on a 22b and MY'01, both sounded great

When looking at any backbox, use this quality checklist...

1) Is the box and the perforated tubing stainless or mild steel?
2) Is the main pipework stainless steel?
3) Are the flanges stainless steel?
4) Is the pipework mandrel bent (maintains internal diameter of pipe)?
5) Does it have a transferable 25 year guarantee?
6) If you don't like it, can you have your money back even though its been used?

The best ones will be a YES to all these questions.

Obviously Pete is a scoobysport man, but I don't understand how he can rave about Scoobysports exhaust when it is total rubbish, even down to the weld that looks like Mr T did it when he was drugged up by howling mad Murdoch!!

Red face

Even I don't slag off products (quite) so mercilessly Alan Not looked at one closely, but all the punters seem to rave about them?

full scoobysport system fitted approx 2 months ago.
quality is excellent- but then again, it's made by hayward & scott who make the ralliart systems for the misubishi WRC team. they apparently make them for rolls royce and lotus also.
as for the sound- the music's much better from the scoobysport than from the MY01's stereo!

I'm in the same boat....I need a back box big time (cos I aint got any silencing at the mo at all)! (sounds lovely though). Do I go Magnex, TSL or SS? That is the question !

Quick question though as well, is the TSL Group N illegal for the road?

And do I get equal performance gains with all the popular BB's? Like low down torque as well as BHP like?

Bottom line for me though is the sound, cos at the end of the day you're talking literally a few bhp difference surely between the systems?

The TSL box is definatately road legal but it is made to group N Standards, which is a good thing!

So Scoobysport exhausts sound like TVRs...which is a good thing. My unsilenced exhaust sounds pretty much the same, but unfortunately has big torque loss low end I think due to very little back pressure. Also is far too loud. Hope the SS isn't as loud !

Anyway, so Scoobysports are brilliant, but also purchased by fools.

I'm confused ! Which is the nicer sounding TSL or SS? Are either of them too loud for long journeys? Which is better quality?

Group N standards - you mean durability and performance then?

I'm almost swaying TSL's direction at the moment........

By group N standards I mean they are the same exhausts fitted to TSL's rally cars but with a road legal spec.

Quality wise they are great, let me know if I can help you out.

I can't comment on TSL as I've never heard one. However, based on my knowledge and experience of the SS one - I would go with that every time. My previous Scoob had a full SS system, Sal's car also has a full SS (previously fitted to Dave T-S's car and if you know him, you know what a fussy bugger he is with the stuff he fits on his cars (sorry Dave, but said in the best possible way)). My new MY01 will soon have a full SS system - are you seeing a pattern here?

The SS has reached near legendary status - quality is always an emotive subject. As was mentioned earlier, the SS is made by Hayward & Scott. The hand made nature of the systems mean that they vary from time-to-time. I would not question their quality and I've never heard of one failing or falling off a car.

What should clinch it for you is the sound - it is the best - loud but not ridiculous. At motorway speeds I actually found that at around 80mph, it was quieter than at lower speeds. I never found it intrusive (and I covered 42000 miles in 18 months). If you are used to a fully silenced standard system, then it will come as a bit of a shock, the first time you start it up - but you won't regret it.

Cheers
Chris

(PS I'm in no way connected to Scoobysport - but if Pete would like to give me a discount when I come down in a couple of weeks, I won't refuse it )

Both excellent systems, swings and round abouts as they say!

But this isn't helping you make your mind up, my suggestion would be try before you buy, find out if anyone in your local area has a TSL, SS or any other system and ask them if they wouldn't mind if you had a listen.

Cool

...Or you could try a Scoobymania exhaust, great sound, excellent quality, not such a feeble 'peashooteresque' tailpipe as the scoobysport.

Just had my TSL BB fitted.
Exhaust note is now absolutely amazing. Nice deep burble at idle, quite at motorway speeds and a fantastic roar at full throttle.

Lee,

How about, Eibachs, Geometry, Group N Discs, Mintex/Ferrodo Pads, Braided Lines and Dot 5.1 fluid. Oh, and a new Backbox LOL!!!

You'll see at the rolling road anyway that my car is as quiet as a mouse for a full decat system.

I've heard a Scoobyport full decat and it's a very nice exhaust note. Apparently Blue has a TSL Backbox and so hopefully I can have a listen to that.

Anyway none of this is going ahead for me unless I can get an Egg Credit card which gives six months free credit. It's not looking good for me. I applied in November on-line and was accepted, the paperwork to sign was supposed to arrive in 8-10 days. The paperwork still has not arrived and I have e-mailed them three times to chase it up. I also happen to be an existing customer with them as I have a savings account. This allows me to log onto their secure site and I have also sent a secure e-mail to them. I have had no response from this secure e-mail and so I am getting a bit pi$$ed off with them now as it is coming up for three months ago that I applied.

hope its sorts itself!
Ive got my 1155 bedded in now, feels very nice! certainly pulls the car up quicker, but i havent abused them yet until they have done a few more miles.
i have already got 5.1 in mine, getting braided hoses at the next service in 5 weeks
see you on sunday! is stubbs coming with you? could do with his humour to help the day along

Hi,
I've decided to have a Magnex rear box & ITG filter fitted
in two weeks time(on my std UK Impreza for starters)-when its due for its major service.
A friend has the same set-up and was surprised with the slight
increase in throttle response / power, and exhaust note being
improved-but not overpowering.
Looking forward to my little two mods !

Max
