dccd judder
Hya,
Just got a version 3 type R, and I have noticed a judder when setting off, I had the diff set to second green light from the bottom, I now have this set to the bottom and no problem, is this normal?
Also which is the best setting to have it to?
Thanks Mark

HI mate
To be honest mate. ive got a MY05 STi with dccd. anythink other then bottom green setting the car shakes and judders its a** off..
MIne only really judders and shakes and clongs when doing tight turnings at really low speed. its sound broken but heard 100% normal. i leave mine on auto and second green then when doing tight turnings or parkings i switch it to bottom green or pull handbrake up untill handbrake light comes on on dashboard. makes diffs free mode...
annoying i know but normal.... anyone esle wanna shed any light on this aswell

David above is correct. 'they all do that' on anything away from fully open, but only on turning at very low (parking) speeds.
I use my dccd for raing only and on the road drive fully open which IMHO is fine.
Add to this the rear diff could be a 'plated' type which are 'rough' when turning at low speed too.
On '2 green lights' and turning people are alarmed at the noise and vibration from the car.

Your diff must be knackered then.... unless it is a newage diff. Classic diffs are crazy when left fully open. I certainly wouldnt recommend that to anyone running a classic type adjustable diff for road use. The newage ones are pansy in comparison. Even Mr Sideways de banke, never drove his TypeR diff fully open..... unless for the most extreme show boating.

Fat Boy,
It's not nonsense at all..... in Simon's Type R it was very aggressive when fully open. Aggressive enough to have his car spin round on him when giving it a large fistful around a roundabout, when he first got it.
Is yours a Type R? Has the diff been remapped (not sure if this is possible on the classic, but I know it is on the newage cars)?
Am also on about giving it a fistful around a tight turn etc....... not on a straight (just to be clear).

Shaun,
Mine isn't a type R, it's a P1 with the dccd retrofitted, so granted it has a gentler rear diff than simon's probably plated rear diff.
I am however obviously talking about on bends not the straight & classic can't be remapped.
Whilst I'm sure I could spin it/ slide it extravagantly if I stood on the throttle in the interests of science on a tight roundabout, as I'm sure Simon did (having followed his old type R for several laps of Bedford when he was clearly running it fully open some years ago ) it's still a sight less leary than say a 350bhp RWD TVR or a Nissan 350 z as there's still 30odd% going to the front wheels even when fully open. I treat it with respect particularly now with the extra power, but it's not a nightmare by any means.
However, experiments so far with the dccd mixed with the full fat 450bhp engine show that it understeers a lot less but is still predictable - I'm a lot more circumspect in the wet but with two/three lights on you can still drive it aggressively but just be ready with the opposite lock on roundabouts / tight bends ..on a private track obviously

I'm with you Fat Boy, fully open in the dry (except on track) is fine. V2 STi Ra (plate rear diff).
It's a very different story in the wet unless you want 70mph power oversteer, like I had the first time I drove mine hard in the wet.
