WR1 clutch slipping
Hi
A friend of mine has a WR1 with approx 40k on the clock and the clutch has started to slip - confirmed by her dealer. She's had quotes of £1000 and £1100 from 2 dealers in S.Wales to replace the clutch and flywheel even though there is no judder at all. She contacted a clutch specialist in Newport who said he'd replace the clutch for £600 and check then to see if the flywheel actually needed replacing.
I've had a quick search on the forums but without much joy. Is is essential/necessary to replace the flywheel with the clutch even though there's no judder? And would you trust a clutch specialist or main dealer come to that? If not, can anyone recommend any good scooby specialists in the S.Wales area?
Thanks
John

£600 to do the clutch OMG.
A lot of people say you have to get the flywheel skimmed so that you get no judder. but most people dont get it skimmed.
I paid £100 labour to a local speclist to do a clutch around year ago. and the clutch was £160 for a excedy one. so a wr1, sti one will be slighty more. skimming of the fly wheel will be around £40. so them prices are very high

i put a recon clutch in my 99 turbo last year, and it cost me 60 quid for the clutch. to fitted myself, but a quote from a garage was 150... i didnt replace or skim the fly cos it wasnt warped, burnt out or cracked... get them to check it out beofre they fit one... a new standard fly is only 100 quid anyway... a good mechanic can usually tell right a way of the fly is knackered.
